<p>The universal joint accommodates greater angular deviation of the coupled sections (1,2). Simple couplings permit deviation of upto 60 degrees, and double couplings upto 100 degrees. The effect is obtained by using slot holes (10,11) to locate the axle pins (4,7). The longer dimension is parallel to the longitudinal joint axis. The friction between joint components may be reduced by cylindrical bushes (12) which locate the axle pins (4,7) in the slot-holes (10,11). The bushes (12) have shoulders which secure them axially. The bushes may eliminate the need for lubrication, the one piece bush (12) may be replaced by a sleeve and washers, and the link (3) may vary in length to suit the installation.</p> |
