The hydraulic valve (1) has a cylindrical valve chamber (9) which locates a disc-shaped valve piston (10). The axial inlet to the valve is linked with an annular chamber (24) which is formed by circular webs (21,23) on the valve chamber base (20) and the valve piston face (22). When the valve is closed, the annular chamber (24) is sealed off. In its open position, the axial gap between the ring webs (21,23) allows the fluid to flow to the exit connection (5) through radial holes (27) in the valve piston disc (10).
