HV circuit breaker with current cut=out parallel to fuse - uses vacuum switch with drive triggered by explosive charge releasing spring-loaded latch

A h.v. circuit breaker limits and switches off excess currents such as short-circuit currents. It has a current interruption point in the main current path with a parallel h.v. fuse. The current break point is the first to open quickly when an overcurrent appeared. The current is then transferred to the high current fuse (16) which produces the final break. The current break point is in the form of a vacuum switch (4). The drive which switches off the vacuum switch is triggered by an explosive charge (21). The moving contact of the vacuum switch operates against the action of a spring (19) when in the on position. It is latched in this position and the latch is released when the explosive charge (21) is ignited.
