<p>A two-for-one doubling spindle carries a pair of short-traverse cones or cheeses of singles yarn mounted one above the other, on ball or roller bearings, whereby the yarns can be pulled off sideways whilst the cones rotate easily on their bearings. A stationary cylindrical pot surrounding the spindle assembly carries on its inner surface at least one guide eye per unwinding yarn, by which the yarn is led upwards to the entry to the hollow spindle without making contact with the cones or with the outer yarn balloon. The guide eyes are attached to a removable bar which slides into a grooved holder fixed to the inside of the pot, allowing the bar to be quickly removed for easy threading of the yarn guides. This arrangement gives a more uniform tension in the singles yarns and prevents the formation of loops or snarls, partic. in high-twist singles.</p> |
