The tie up device is for applying to the neck of an animal such as a pig. It has a hinged arrangement at three shank pieces connected at two hinge points. A middle piece lies on the animal's neck while the two side pieces run along the sides of the animals neck. A connecting chain connects the free shank ends on the underside of the neck and a holding ring connects the chain with a holding chain. One end of the connecting chain is hinged to the free end of one shank. The free end of the other shank piece has a chain guide and a chain lock for a releasable locking engagement.
