In an arrangement fot the mutual fixing of the flat elements of e.g. heat exchanger plates or filters, the packing material and the elements are arranged so that the elements are fixed in a definite position and cannot be displaced relative to each other. The packing material, which is generally an elastomer, is arranged in such a way that when the elements are moved together, the packing material (1) is compressed completely against the surfaces (4) of the elements and prevents relative movement.
