919,584. Coating webs. CELLOPHANE INVESTMENT CO. Ltd. March 24, 1961 [April 22, 1960], No. 10963/61. Class 140. An apparatus for coating both sides of a web with a liquid, e.g. an aqueous dispersion of a resin, comprises two horizontal applicator rolls 2, 3 defining a nip, means for passing the web through the nip twice in the same direction, guiding means for ensuring that one face of the web laps one roll 2 in the first pass, and that the other face laps the other roll 3 in the second pass, means for setting or drying the web after each pass, and means, e.g. a roll 18, Fig. 4, for keeping the coated faces of the web together for a certain distance after their exit from the nip. The guiding means are rolls, which guide the web after lapping the roll 2 through a drier, round the roll 3 and through a second drier to a wind-up roll. The path of the web during that part of its movement when the two faces are in contact preferably does not lap the roll 2, but is straight away from the exit of the nip, Fig. 3. Specification 663,645 is referred to. |
