A slack-resisting bolt-and-nut assembly comprises a bolt 1 having a two part shank construction which is separable at the nut clamping position. An internally threaded hole 4 is provided in the head part 2 of the shank, an externally threaded projection 5 is formed on the separable shank part 3 and the projection 5 is screwed into the hole 4 so as to join the two shank parts together and form the complete shank. Two nuts 6, 8 are screwed onto the shank, one of these nuts e.g. 8 having a projection at one end with an external thread 9 which engages with an internal thread 7 of the other nut the pitch of these threads differing from the pitch of the external thread of the shank. The separable shank part 3 has, a slot to receive a screwdriver, or a squared end 11 which can be engaged by a suitable tool to enable the part 3 to be turned relatively to the head part 2 and permit locking of the nut 8 in its tightened position. In an alternative embodiment the projection 5 and hole 4 have threads of opposite hand to the bolt thread. <IMAGE> |
