PURPOSE:To facilitate the transfer from glow discharge to arc discharge, by specifying both the charged pressure of neon-krypton, as well as the distance from the end of the main electrode to the inner wall of the luminous tube. CONSTITUTION:A metal halide lamp includes a luminous tube, which is charged with neon-krypton, mercury and a metal halide. The luminous tube 1 contains main electrodes 2a and 2b, and the distance between these electrodes 2a and 2b is not more than 4.0cm. The neon-krypton is charged at a pressure of P Torr, and the distance between the end of the main electrode and the inner wall of the luminous tube 1 is Lcm. Here, P.D should be within a range of 100-700 Torr.cm, and L/D should be not less than 1/10. |
