PURPOSE:To make it possible to use a optical switch stably with a small loss while eliminating a moving part, by separating an input parallel beam into two linear polarized beams having planes of polarization at right angles to each other and by giving each beam a Faraday rotation and reversible flash. CONSTITUTION:Light emitted from input optical fiber 16 strikes polarizing beam splitter 2 as light beam 100 and is separated into linear polarized beams 101 and 102 having mutually orthogonal planes of polarization, which pass through Fardaday rotator 4, glass block 5 and reversible flasher 6 successively. Linear polarized beam 101 is passed through polarizing beam splitter 8 to obtain linear polarized beam 103, and linear polarized beam 102 is passed through prism 7 to obtain linear polarized beam 104; the both are led into output fiber 17 by output lens element 10 or made into linear polarized beams 105 and 106, which are reflected at right angles in prism 9 and led into output fiber 18 via output lens element 11. |
