<p>The apparatus for collecting a fee or amount due in respect of a service comprises plug-in means intended to receive a removable pre-payment magnetic support (45) comprising a credit memory (52) containing a series of credit unit signals and at least one recording memory (49 to 51). The apparatus further comprises a keyboard (11) designed for the inputting of data identifying the fee or the amount due, display means (23 to 27) for displaying these data, and at least one control circuit (37) for passing the signals contained in the credit memory (52) between the support and the apparatus and introducing the data identifying the fee into the recording memory (49 to 51).
