PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide photographic sensitive material free from desensitization and the occurrence of fog and stain in storage by forming a hydrophilic colloid layer contg. a specified reaction product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent on the material provided on a support. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic primary amine developing agent is added to an aqueous soln. of o-alkoxybenzaldehyde of which aromatic ring is substituted by one or more of carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid and their salts, and the reactive soln. is adjusted to 11-14pH to obtain a Schiff base compound. This compound as a precursor of a developing agent is added to the arbitrary layer contg. a hydrophilic colloid of a silver halide photographic sensitive material on a support. A compound represented by formula I (wherein each of R1 and R2 is alkyl; R3 is H or alkyl; R4 is alkyl; and each of R5-R8 is H, halogen, alkyl or the like), e.g., the compound of formula II or III is preferably used as the Schiff base compound. |
