PURPOSE:To reduce variance in light loss characteristics, by using two rectangular equilateral prisms for an optical switch which couples selectively three optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The 1st rectangular prism 14 and 2nd rectangular prism 15 are moved simultaneously as shown by arrow 16 or in the opposite direction through the driving of a solenoid, etc., so that light from the 1st optical fiber F1 can optically be coupled with the 2nd optical fiber F2 or 3rd optical fiber F3 via the 1st prism 14 or 2nd prism 15. With regard to positioning the 1st prism 14 and 2nd prism 15, high precision is not required when thicknesses of prisms 14 and 15 are set much greater than the direct coupling of self-focusing lenses 11, 12 and 13, so that a light switch of high precision with a small loss and small variance in loss characteristics can be obtained. |
