PURPOSE:After a butadiene polymer composed of a specific composition is formed, it is made into a latex with the aid of an emulsifier, then a vinyl compound is made to react therewith to produce a resin with a high heat distortion temperature and high impact strength. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between (i) alpha-methylstyrene, (ii) butadiene, and (iii) an alkyllithium, preferably n-butyl lithium is conducted preferably at 30- 150 deg.C to form (A) a butadiene polymer. Then, using (B) an emulsifier such as a rosinate, the polymer is made into a latex and combined with (C) an aromatic or polar vinyl compound, preferably styrene or acrylonitrile, and a catalyst such as potassium persulfate. The polymerization is effected to give the objective resin. Preferably, the molar ratio of i/ii is (10-80)/(90-20), iii/(i+ii) is (0.01-0.5)/ 100, B/A is (0.5-15)/100 and the weight ratio of the polybutadienene polymer produced/(i+C) is (10-40)/(90-60). |
