A terephthalic acid suspension contg. a decreased amount of impurities such as oxidizing intermediate material, colorizing material, oxidizing catalyst was prepd. by treating such a suspension from catalytic oxidizing product oxidn. of p-alkylbenzene or a mother liquor contg. low grade aliphatic carboxylic acid solvent derived from oxidizing product. The mixt. is heated and mother liquor removed at the other end of the cycle.
