PURPOSE:To enable the manufacture of a superconducting wire without a defect like breakage by specifying a ratio of the cross sectional area of a sheath material to the total cross sectional area of an oxide superconductor before processing for diameter shrinkage and the sheath material. CONSTITUTION:For the manufacture of a superconducting oxide wire, a tubular sheath material made of silver is prepared and superconducting oxide powder is filled in the sheath material. After filling mixed powder in the sheath material, a die is used to draw the sheath material and the diameter thereof is reduced, thereby obtaining a wire material of desired diameter. The cross sectional area of the sheath material used in this process is made 40% or more of the total cross sectional area of the superconductor and the sheath material. According to the aforesaid construction, wire diameter can be reduced without any trouble such as a crack and a break and a long superconducting wire of desired diameter is available. |
