<p>On the trolley is a slide which carries a shaft (16) employed to lift a lid out of a charging hole in the top of a coke oven. Slide also has pivot levers carrying a lid cleaning ring. Ring is moved out of the axis of shaft while the lid is lifted, and is then returned so it is coaxial with shaft. The shaft then lowers lid into ring, so knives in the latter can scrape carbonaceous deposits off the sealing surfaces on the lid. Slide also carries a rotating scraper head, which can be lowered into the charging hole to remove carbonaceous deposits in this hole before lid is replaced. The overall result is that lids and holes can be kept free of deposits so proper seals can be obtd., thus preventing the escape of coke oven gas. The cleaning of holes and lids can rapidly be undertaken by mechanical devices.</p> |
