A femoral endoprosthesis comprises top and stem sections integrally formed and inclined at an angle. The top section is partly spherical and the stem section having an essentially circular cross-section comprises four grooves arranged at regular intervals and extending from a point at a distance from its top section virtually down to the free end of the stem section. The diameter of the stem section and the width and depth of the grooves all decrease gradually from the top end to the free end of the stem section. This design facilitates insertion of the endoprosthesis and after completion of the insertion ensures a better wedging between the endoprosthesis and the surrounding bone by the bone cement.
