PURPOSE:To provide an amorphous alloy which is excellent in strength, corrosion resistance and magnetic properties by a method wherein a molten alloy containing metals such as Fe, Co, Ni, etc. as main constituent, nonmetals such as Si, C, B, etc. and specified metals is cooled at a superhigh cooling rate. CONSTITUTION:The alloy is represented by the composition formula MaSibCcBd Ae, where M is at least one among the Group VIII elements such as Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, etc.; A is at least one element selected from the Group IIIb elements such as Al, Ga, In, Tl, etc. or the Group IVb elements such as Ge, Sn, Pb, etc. or the Group Vb elements such as N, P, As, Sb, Bi, etc.; a is 70-95, b is 0-10, c is 0.01-10, d is 0.01-20 and e is 0.01-10, with a+b+c+d=100, b+d>=c, b<=1.4d and c+d<10. The melt of the alloy is cooled at a superhigh cooling rate of 10<6> deg.C/sec, thereby obtaining the amorphous alloy in the shape of a ribbon. |
