A multi-purpose hot water heating system with a heat recovery circuit. It contains an air-water heat pump and an oil or gas- driven additional boiler. The additional boiler uses the available waste heat. The temp. of the ambient air before being supplied to the evaporator of the heat pump is increased by the flue gas of the additional heating circuit (42) and of a combustion engine which drives the compressor of the heat pump. The flue gases of the combustion motor increase the temp. of the water in the first heat recovery stage then increase the temp. of the ambient temp. supplied to the evaporator, (14).
