<p>Methods and apparatus for the manufacture of silicon carbide bearing material utilizing fluidized bed techniques. Silicon-bearing material (26) and carbon-bearing material (26) are charged into a fluidized bed of electrically conductive particulate material (12) and are heated to the silicon carbide forming temperature by applying an electric potential between electrodes (16 and 24) direct contact with the particles of the fluidized bed. The silicon carbide bearing material is produced directly in a finely divided state, without further grinding. </p> |
