The stepping circuit has a switch (S) to invert or not invert an in-phase signal when one of two operating states exists. The direction of the signal state change following the appearance of the start signal is opposite or the same as a given direction. Blocking devices (N1-N3) interrupt the supply of in-phase signals to the converter (U) during a third state of operation from the moment the circuit becomes effective to the moment the start signal appears. The switch is located between the clock generator (T) and the converter and has two channels, an inverting channel and a non-inverting channel. A memory (S1-S2) records the actual state and selects the blocking devices to disable the channels.
