The electric vehicle, e.g. a stacking truck, has electric or hydraulic auxiliary power steering with which the electromotor for the auxiliary power steering is driven by the difference voltage of the voltage needed by the drive motor for full operating voltage. A switch (15) locks the electromotor for safety reasons and is controlled via a delay relay (16) and accelerator pedal switch (17). The switch (15) and the delay relay (16) are operated electrically. The speed of the electromotor can be set to any value even when the vehicle is stationary.
