PURPOSE:To make a liq. crystal layer thinner and prevent chipping by forming the upper and lower substrates of a liq. crystal dispaly element with poly-alpha-methylpentane. CONSTITUTION:Upper and lower substrates 1, 2 are made of poly-alpha-methylpentane, In2O3-SnO2 is vacuum deposited on the opposite surfaces of substrates 1, 2 to form about 500Angstrom Nesa films, and the films are etched to manufacture electrodes. A 10% aqueous soln. of PVA for orienting a liq. cyrstal is applied, vacuum dried, and rubbed with gauze. A soln. of polyethylene-vinyl acetate in hexane is applied to peripheral parts of substrates 1, 2 by screen printing, and after drying the soln., 10mu glass fibers 3 are scattered on the surfaces of the peripheral parts. Substrate 1 is then superposed on substrate 2 and pressed with heating to adjust the gap to 10mu. Lip. crystal 4 is injected into the gap, and polarizing plates 5, 6 are adhered to the surfaces of substrates 1, 2 to obtain a liq. crystal display element. Since substrates 1, 2 have heat resistance and flexibility, the Nesa films are vacuum deposited easily, and sufficient strength is obtd. without carrying out drawing. |
