PURPOSE:To observe the form variations of battery constituents directly by sight, and thereby enable the estimation of deterioration degree of a battery by location an end of an optical fiber flux on a part inside a container whose structure vaires with its deterioration, and by locating the other end of the flux outside the container. CONSTITUTION:An end 9' of an optical fiber flux 9 made of either glass or plastic fiber is located upright on an active material layer which is at the surface of a positive plate 2. The other end 9'' of the flux 9 is drawn outside a container 5. Besides, an irradiation light-source 10 for brightening the vicinity of the end 9' inside the container, and a magnifying observation device 11 such as a microscope for magnifying and observing the condition of the surface of the active material are provided. Owing to the above mentioned constitution, the spot of constituents inside the container which can be observed is not only the surface of the positive active material, but any spots of a positive grid, a negative active material, a separator and the like can be selected to be observed, according to a battery design and a load condition. |
