A cylindrical annular sealing diaphragm (7) made of a resilient material, for use in a water tap in the form of a one-knob-control mixing tap, defines sealing portions 25 bounded by grooves 23 which reduce the thickness of the diaphragm to facilitate movement of the portions 25 towards and away from their sealing positions. The tap 10 comprises a cylindrical chamber (9) of substantially the same diameter as the outer periphery of the sealing diaphragm, at least one water inlet pipe (5, 6) extending to the periphery of such chamber, the sealing diaphragm being so located in the chamber as to cover the open mouth of the inlet pipe, the tap having a pressure chamber (14) which is disposed inside the chamber and inside the sealing diaphragm and which is adapted to be pressed radially and outwardly against the diaphragm inner periphery at a point adjacent the open mouth of the inlet pipe as a result of a control element (15) of the tap being actuated, the diaphragm therefore entering into sealing engagement with the edge of the open mouth of the supply pipe and closing the same. <IMAGE> |
