2-(Amylbenzoyl)benzoic acid which was contained more amount of 2-(t-amylbenzoyl)benzoic acid than 2-(S-amylbenzoyl)benzoic acid, was prepd. by reacting t-amylbenzene with phthalic anhydride in the presence of lewis acid. This reaction was proceeded under the <= 330 mmHg or under the inert gas(liquid) atm. which was chose from air, N2, CO2, CO, SO2, freon, hexafluorosulfide, gas phase hydrocarbon or low boiling point liquid.
