1294503 Tyre building apparatus GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 22 May 1970 [30 June 1969] 24903/70 Heading B7C A method of applying a cord-reinforced undertread portion 19 to a tyre carcass 13 consists in applying a strip of elastomeric material 29, in the form of uncured rubber stock 27, that is substantially narrower than the tread 11, and at least one cord 22, extending longitudinally of the strip 29, simultaneously to the carcass 13 in a plurality of overlapping turns around the circumference of the carcass 13, so that the cords 22 extend generally circumferentially of the carcass 13 of tyre 10. The carcass 13 is mounted on a rotatable spindle 35 mounted on a bed plate 24 and driven by variable speed driving means 37, there being a base frame 30 pivotable about a vertical shaft 31 so that the tread area of the carcass 13 can be passed transversely of stitchers 45. The carcass 13 can be moved toward and away from the stitchers 45 by rotating an arm 32 about a horizontal shaft 33. The ribbon of rubber stock 29 is guided from a die 28 to the carcass 13 by a series of horizontal parallel rollers 41, 42, 43 and 44. The turn down roll 41 is located below the outlet of the die 28, while the dancer roll 42 is located below the roll 41 and senses the amount of slack in the ribbon 29 between the die 28 and the carcass 13 to vary the speed of rotation of the carcass 13 accordingly. A horizontal arm 40 is mounted on an extruder 25 above the die 28 and supports the guide roll 43 and applicator roll 44. A comb 46 for spacing the cord 22 is disposed between the guide roll 43 and a creel 38 while an eye type guide 47 lies below the comb 46. An automatic retreading programmer 48 is mounted on the extruder 25 and controls the pivoting of base frame 30 relative to rotating of the tyre carcass 13 to control the degree of overlap of the ribbon 29. |
