<p>The process comprises contacting the hair in the desired arrangement with an aq. compsn. contg. a prod. prepd. by mixing in aq. medium more than 0.25 mole of at least one soluble guanidine salt and an effective amt. of at least one ion exchange resin in particle and quaternary ammonium hydroside form. The resin is chosen to have an affinity for the guanidine salt anion which is at least equal to the affinity of the resin for the hydroxide ion. After a sufficient contact, the compsn. is removed. In another embodiment the compsn. comprises guanidine hydroxide prepd. as above with at least 1 min. reaction followed by sepn. of the ion exchange resin from the soln. A compsn. for the above comprises guanidine hydroxide and at least one quaternary ammonium ion exchange resin to which is linked, at least in stoichiometric amt. based on the hydroxide, an anion as above. The process is used to frizz, relax or permanent wave the hair. The process enables in situ prepn. of guanidine hydroxide which is relatively unstable forming the carbonate in air; it also avoids disagreeable odours.</p> |
