Fixing collar for HV large dia. insulator - is moulded aggregate annulus including reinforcing wires and field equalising conductors

The collar consists basically of an aggregate annulus sealed to the circumference of the base of the insulator. The aggregate (3) is made up of a mixture of a binder, which may be a resin or a hydraulic cement loaded with some suitable material and including possibly a plasticiser reducing the water content. The collar is formed in a mould using a release agent such as polyurethane grease. The collar has a metal disc (6) to which are welded short tubes (7) to accommodate fixing bolts (5) and includes reinforcing wires (4) and possibly wear surface conductors to minimise the field effects of the bolts. The collars are secured to the insulators using a similar aggregate (9) but using finer loading material. The collar allows high voltage, large dia., ceramic insulators to be secured to ground or a horizontal surface. The collar overcomes the high cost of orthodox collars and the need for specialised tools.
