Plasticised PVC pt. crosslinked by high energy radiation - has high plasticiser content to compensate for stiffening effect of crosslinking

Plasticised (cc)PVC pts., e.g. dolls, balls, folding bellows or flexible electric wires with insulation and opt. also sheaths with elastomeric, heat-resistant articles, which contain crosslinking agent and are crosslinked by high energy radiation, contain substantial amts. of plasticiser (I). The amt. of (I) is sufficient to compensate the stiffening effect of crosslinking, so that the articles are given an elongation at break of 100% or more. The articles have the compsn. 100 pts. (co) PVC, 30-150 pts. (I), e.g. DOP or other (I) of low viscosity, chloroparaffins etc. a or polymeric (I), 0-50 pts.filler, e.g. chalk, TiO2 etc., 5-30 pts. polyfunctional crosslinker (II) and 0.1-10 pts. pigment, lubricant, stabiliser and flame retardant, e.g. Sb2O3. (II) is trimethylolpropane tri(meth)acrylate and/or ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. The thermal stability is increased, allowing cheap plasticised PVC pts. to be used instead of dearer plastics near heating equipment, hot surfaces and liquids, without reducing the thermoplastic properties.
