Refuse compositing tower - with sliding partitions between decks for intermittent descending progress

A tower for the conversion of municipal refuse and/or sewage sludge to compost is divided by horizontal partitions into four decks. Each partition consists of two halves with an overlap in the centre which can be moved over each other by rope drives. Three scrapers above each partition have the shape of an inverted U and are also used to introduce compressed air. The liq. is drained off from each deck as the material descends. The compost produced is extracted at the bottom by a belt conveyor. This requires little capital investment and maintenance. It produces a homogeneous good-quality compost.
