PURPOSE:To measure the concn. of mercury contained in an aqueous soln. with accuracy by allowing mercury (compound) in the soln. to be adsorbed on activated carbon, heating the carbon to a high temp. to allow the mercury (compound) to be desorbed, and measuring the amount of mercury vapor by an atomic absorption analysis method. CONSTITUTION:A mercury-contg. aqueous soln. is adjusted to 0.001-0.1N concn. of sulfuric acid and 0.001-1mol concn. of halogen ions, and it is passed through an activated carbon layer to allow mercury (compound) to be adsorbed on the carbon. The layer is then heated to 600-1,000 deg.C in an inert gas stream to allow the mercury (compound) to be desorbed, and the desorbed mercury (compound) is heated to 600-1,000 deg.C under an oxygen atmosphere to remove contained impurities by calcination. By measuring the amount of the resulting purified mercury vapor by an atomic absorption analysis method, the concn. of mercury in the aqueous soln. is measured with accuracy. |
