The inflatable life raft is enclosed in a container which may be flexible or rigid. The raft is mounted in a cradle (6) fixed to the ship. The flexible container holds the raft (1) in the collapsed condition. The system has a compressed air or gas cylinder (8) connected through a valve (9) to the inflatable vessel. The raft is fitted with an automatic inflatable system consisting of a battery (10). The battery is activated by sea water through the thin wall (13) disintegrated by the action of the water.
