A projectile for small arms having a calibre of 4 to 12 mm and a core consisting of steel or a similar material is specified, which is surrounded at least at the front and on the sides by a material based on copper. The core (1) consists of a solid part which has a rotating cylinder (3) which is connected via a sharp edge (4) to the tip of a rotating cone (5) whose apex angle is 50 to 80 DEG and is preferably in the order of magnitude of 60 DEG , the axial length of the rotating cylinder (3) being less than the axial length of the rotating cone (5). <IMAGE>
