<p>The isolating switch overcomes the comparatively large air gap and associated problems of electro-magnet methods of overcoming welding together of the breaker electrodes. Electrode separation is by a single double wound helical spring which also acts to close the switch when required. In one of several variations of the design a separate push-button is used to initiate closing and opening of the switch. The spring is wound over two shafts of a two stable condition lever combination operated by an extension of the open button, the lever system driving the moving contact carrier. The close button directly drives the core of an electromagnetic coil against a spring arm connected by a flexible lead to the moving electrode.</p> |
