Skein winder with stationary skein holders arranged central column - and winding effected by yarn-guide arm supported on chain-driven carriage, in completely automatic winding cycle

A skein winder winds yarns on to skein holders in a continuous automatic cycle by rotation. A yarn-guide arm (11) travels along a closed path around the stationary skein holder, being supported by a chain-driven mechanism comprising a carriage (8). A zig-zag wind may be achieved in the skein by an auxiliary motor to that driving the chains. Previously known skein winders have turning skein holders, requiring powerful motors, and exposing operatives to risk, especially on skein removal. The skein winder of the invention employs a stationary skein holder and the removal of skeins is effected automatically, as part of an entirely automatic cycle, so that any risk to the operator from moving skein holders is eliminated.
