The square shaft (1) fits into the adapter (2) which is made of two identical semi-cylindrical parts (3) with square longitudinal grooves (6) cut out of the plane opposing faces. The adapter then fits into the longitudinal circular groove (7) arranged in the handle (5) and is kept there by pointed screws (8) which pass through internally threaded holes (9) and grip the adjuster. When fitted to the door the adapter can have a safety device which prevents the operation of the shaft from the exterior except by a special tool. This device is in the form of a button fitted into the end of one of the cylindrical parts and lying nearly flush with the door.
