<p>A glass syringe with integral nipples for two or more radial outlets is fitted with metal adaptors to convert the nipples to accept a screwed or bayonet coupling. Esp. applicable to syringes used for draining, ventilating and rinsing, e.g. a pleural cavity or other physiological sites for which conventional rubber tubing is unsuitable. The modified adaptors are better for securing tubing made of silicone or other relatively inextensible synthetic rubbers. The adaptors are mounted using a resin cement compatible with the glass surface and resistant to sterilisation temps. Pref. the adaptors include a coaxial conic spigot to receive a complementary thermoplastic coupling welded on to the end of the tubing.</p> |
