An electronic teaching device is indicated which has a memory with a first memory area for storing a multiplicity of words of a first language and retrieval keys for initiating the read-out of one of the words, one of the words being selected at random from the memory and emitted as a visual output signal in response to a signal emitted by the retrieval keys.
