The storage space for long objects in a car has the front end of the boot with a central opening leading to the space between the seats, along the middle of the vehicle. Long objects are inserted from the rear of the boot and lie between the seats. A cover (7) is shaped to sit between the seats to protect the load. The extension can be shaped to fit any normal car. The cover is made of plastics, material which is moulded and provides a draught free extension to the boot. It is removed when not in use, The top of the cover can be padded as additional arm rests. The extension carries skis etc. without a drag increasing roof rack.
