A symbol rail cover is assembled with the housing by a detent catch and step. The catch is a narrow lug extension on the cover with a lip at the end, and the step is formed by an elongated cut-out on the housing end, leaving a rib of square cross-section. This ensures that the switch contacts the dashboard without play and that even major tolerance discrepancies can be compensated. The switch housing (19) mounted in the dashboard (11) has a slot (16) which leaves an elastic rib (18) to act as a detent step. The symbol rail cover (10) has a flange (13) which contacts a ledge (12) on the dashboard. A thin and short lug extension (14) has a retainer lip (15) which snaps into the cut-out (16). The opposite side of the cover (10) acts as an abutment to allow the cover to adjust itself by a pad (25) which enters into a slot of the plate (26).
