The invention relates to a method and a circuit arrangement for transmitting data in an envelope-structured synchronous data network. A plurality of terminal devices (E1 to En) can be connected to the data network via a multiplex device (MX). The multiplex device (MX) in each case combines a plurality of envelopes (EN) of a plurality of data channels (K1 to Kn) to form one multiplex frame (MR). The multiplex frame (MR) contains the data bits (D) of the envelopes (EN) and some of the control bits (S, A) of the envelopes (EN).
