1-(Naphthylethyl)imidazole derivatives of the formula <CHEM> wherein Z is esterified hydroxymethylene, or ketal-, thioketal- or hemithioketal-protected carbonyl, and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, are useful as anticonvulsant and anti-secretory agents. They can be prepared by esterifying the corresponding compounds in which Z is hydroxymethylene, or by ketalisation, hemithioketalisation or thioketalisation of the corresponding compounds in which Z is carbonyl, or by reaction of a halomethyl 2-naphthyl ketone ketal with an alkali metal salt of imidazole. |
