PURPOSE:To improve the temp. dependency of the alkali permeability of a photographic element and the permeability of the element by adding a phase separated polymer mixture to a temporary barrier layer having specified activating energy of permeation due to an aqueous alkali soln. in the element. CONSTITUTION:A temporary barrier layer in a photographic element is made of phase separated polymer mixture obtd. by adding the 2nd copolymer such as liq. polybutadiene to the 1st polymer such as vinylidene chloride-methyl acrylate-itaconic acid polymer by about 2-30wt%. This mixture is dissolved in a solvent, applied to a neutralization layer on a support, and dried to form the temporary barrier layer having 16-32kcal/mol activating energy of permeation due to an aqueous alkali soln. By interposing this barrier layer between two alkali permeable layers of the photographic element, the start of the actions of various reagents such as a development inhibitor can be controlled. |
