A check-out unit for shops performs weighing, pricing, and recording functions. It is simplified and has fewer sources of error compared to conventional devices and is esp. simple to operate. One or more electronic balances (1a to 1n) have one or more freely programmable memory address keys. The balances are connected via a cable (2) acting as a data bus to a cash register (4) contg. the memory which stores the weighing data for goods associated with each customer. The data is written out at the push of a button which also causes computation of the necessary totals. The output of the relevant data to the recording strip and the calculation of totals require only one entry of the relevant data for each customer.
