The spikes for the shoe are inserted in recesses in the sole wherein a fastening element (14) pref. in the form of a circular disc is mounted round each recess (24) which takes the spike (22). The fastening element has round its perimeter (18) an edge serving as a counter ratchet and interacting with a corresponding detent element in the form of the edge (20) of a cap-like resilient retaining member (19). This retaining member has a recess (21) through which the spike passes wherein the spike is gripped by the retaining element in the manner of a screw cap. To replace the spike it is only necessary to remove the cap-like holder by hand.
