Method of electrical power generation wherein the energy source for a Rankine cycle engine is the energy existing between two fluid sources such as warm surface ocean water and cold deep ocean water. A refrigerant such as ammonia is circulated between evaporator (12) and surface water heat exchanger (60). Refrigerant is cooled by circulation between condenser (30) and deep water heat exchanger (32). A positive displacement prime mover (24) is driven by the hot gas, which is then condensed and recirculated to the evaporator. Electrical control (28) distributes power to the system and external loads. Control (16) regulates the speed. This apparatus solves the problem of driving an evaporator and condenser with two sources that are relatively close in temperature.
|
