<p>Digoxin is methylated using DMS in DMF in the presence of barium hydroxide, with the addn. of (1) Al oxide and an inert org. solvent, esp. toluene, or (2) Al isopropylate. After the reaction, CHCl3 is added and the mixt. filtrated and treated with pyridine, followed by concentration and removal of unchanged digoxin. The 1st method yields the 4"'-O-methyl-and the 2nd, the 3"'-O-methyl-ether exclusively, and only traces of polymethyl ethers. Used for treatment of cardiac insufficiency.</p> |
