PURPOSE:To provide a energy saving type salt bath furnace which considerably decreases the consumption of energy by using the quantity of heat discarded by cooling for preheating and considerably improving thermal efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A flexible object 1 to be heated such as wire material having been uniformly heated to required temp. by being passed through the heating and soaking zone 7 in a furnace body 2 is carried to heat exchange zones 8b and 8a. The salt of the heat exchanging zones 8b, 8a is heated by the quantity of the heat possessed by the object 1'' on the incoming side and further the heat thereof is transmitted to the object 1' on the outgoing side by the natural convection or force convection by force agitation of this salt. As a result, the object 1 is carried into the heating- soaking zone 7 after it has been preheated by being passed through the heat exchange zones 8a, 8b; therefore, the it is uniformly heated up to required temp. by less quantity of heat. At the same time, the object 1'' on the incoming side coming out from the heating-soaking zone 7 is cooled slowly in the heat exchange zone 8b and is further cooled in the heat exchange zone 8a.
